ESPM
is a new initiative since early 2004. It was begun by pastors and elders of
PCUSA churches on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. At a meeting at BelleHaven
Presbyterian church, the group representing 6 of 7 churches in the Eastern Shore
dialogued about a need for a joint mission project. They are small churches
with a heart for mission. The ESPM Program began with a commitment to help
school age children that could be identified with a need
Many
children begin school without proper supplies, clothing and shoes. In 2004 ESPM
provided school supplies for children who were identified by school
administrators, teachers and school officials. This
successful program helped over 100 students in 2004, and is appreciated by the
school system on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
In
the midst of a half million to one million dollar homes that are in the process
of being built throughout the Eastern Shore for wealthy residents of New York,
Virginia Beach, Maryland, and other states to be used as "get-away" homes,
extreme poverty exists on the Eastern Shore for many indigenous people of all
racial ethnic backgrounds, including recent immigrants from Mexico, South
America and other countries . Many children of the indigenous and immigrant
poor begin school without adequate shoes, clothing and supplies. This lack of
necessities does not allow them to enjoy a successful first day . For many
students, if the first day and month of school do not begin well, it sets a tone
for the remainder of the school year.
Please Note that monetary donations are welcomed.
