Our Spring Gathering has come and gone. Again we thank the ladies of Williamsburg Presbyterian for hosting the Gathering and sharing their lovely new sanctuary and to Bettie Greene for coordinating the day.
Our Synod Summer Gathering at Massanetta Springs has come and gone. Two of my classmates from Queens were there as well as friends from past Gatherings. Dale Lindsay Morgan (author of our 2008-09 Bible study) was outstanding as always. The Resource Center at Presbytery office has her three CDs from the plenary sessions of the Gathering. They are available for check out.
One of the workshops I attended was on the PW Palm Project in the Congo. The palm trees for this project are new varieties of Costa Rican palms that will produce three times more palm oil than the current trees produce. These palms grow lower to the ground (about 5 feet) than the present trees. This lets the women help with the planting, maintenance and harvesting of the crop. They can plant 150 trees per hectare. (One hectare equals 2.47 acres.) The sale of the oil will help hospitals and schools.
In September, we will have two Fall Gatherings - Friday at Hampton First and Saturday at Grace Covenant. There will be the usual workshops for the local coordinating teams. The Rev. Linda Rainey, Campus Ministry, is doing the Bible Study workshop. The Rev. Karen Stanley, Williamsburg PC, is the worship leader. SherNita McFarlin is finalizing several fun workshops so there should be something for everyone. I hope to see many of you at the Gatherings.
Just a reminder the “Change of Information for Directory for CT Teams in the Churches”. They are due NOW. Nelda Pressly |
